Your Environment Determines your Future
I find those studies of twins separated at birth to be fascinating. They tell us quite a lot about our surroundings, and how our environment shapes our success in life. While things like idiosyncrasys may be genetic, the people we surround ourselves with, and the environment we live in play a much larger role. There are going to be two types of environments for us to maintain control over in order for greater success in life and those are your mind/thought environment and your outside environment.
Control your thoughts, starts by training yourself to think better. By better, I mean making the conscious effort to think in the realm of positive instead of the negative. Take everything as a blessing and a chance to learn and grow as a human. Always asses the situation and think how you can use it to positively impact your life. For example, lets say you dumped by your significant other. This may seem like the worst thing ever and like your world is coming to an end. The positive mind set would try to focus on the positive. Why would you want to be with someone that doesn’t want to be with you anyways?! You now can reflect on what you did and did not like from that relationship from a new perspective. Chances are you can make a list of cons along with your list of pros. Maybe there was something that you can improve on to become a better partner for the next lucky person.
What you want to avoid in this particular example is the whoa is me negative victim approach. Falling into negative thoughts is only a downward spiral and nothing productive comes from it. Trust me because I have done it. Train your thoughts and your reactions to these seemingly “negative” experiences to a “where can I find the lesson or growth” approach. Sometimes we need a wake up call and the universe will provide that for us in a variety of interesting ways. See, the goal isn’t not to have anything bad happen ever, because that is not possible, but to use it to our advantage whoever we feel like something bad is happening. Try it out and see how easy or hard it comes to you.
When training you thoughts and knee jerk reactions, it is common for it to take time. It will probably not happen right away. Its okay to think whatever thoughts come to your mind as long as you can realize you can change your thoughts at any time. Im not perfect and sometimes I think worst case scenario when faced with a hardship, but the key to training your brain is quickly acknowledging that you are being negative and you can then switch your focus and focus on solutions and positivity and growth.
Approach life differently. Approach life like a child. A child has no pollution of the mind that makes most of us react from a place of fear. We can react from a place of love or fear. If we choose to react from a place of fear we probably will not have anything positive come from that. But lets say we choose to react from a place of love, what might unfold if we are looking for something to learn from? We can learn from every experience and I now choose to learn instead of the alternative.
The alternative from choosing to learn from all of lifes up and downs and in the middles, is stubborn and stagnant reactions and thoughts. We essentially wallow in our ego and negative thought process. An example of this will probably help you understand what Im talking about. Lets say you get some bad news about a business deal and potentially could lose millions of dollars. One reaction and thought process could be freaking out and thinking that you are going to lose your house and possible your wife and like you have blown it and basically just thinking the worst. What we need to know is we will determine our future by how we react. We could be scared as hell but we can not let that stop us from reacting with a positive outlook.
